Hi guys, here are the technical informations: 500 + 1,4X, ISO 400, f/8, 1/1000 sec, hand-held. It was not easy at all to obtain good pictures of that species: wake up at 5:00 a.m. for ten consecutively mornings; photographing from 7:00 to 08:30 a.m. in a big sea colony of the species (about 60 pairs). I've shot at least two thousand photos only to have about a hundred good to very good pictures. Very soon other photos. The full gallery very soon at my site. Daniele

Danielle, I'm fond of taking pictures of all kind of swifts in flight, but I'v never produced a photo what even comes near this one. I see there is a long way to go for me! You must have had very special light from untherneath the bird (reflection from the water?). Thanks for shearing with us. Michel

Daniele, Thanks for the additional info, good to know how much effort you have put in this amazing shot. If all your 2000 shots had been like this, I would have sold my camera and lens ) Best, Marijn

Unreal!!!! Everything you would want from a picture of a swift! Great light, great posture, pinsharp, and well placed in frame. One (and certainly me) would be quit content if he could get one of these straight! The first 10 a gave for a pcture, and without any hesitation! Ton Eggenhuizen

Hi Daniele, Congratulations with this very nice photo. The light is good (the sky is a little bit purple on my monitor), the sharpness is good and the composition is good. But, in my opinion, it’s not a 10 photo. In fact, not any photo (on Birdpix) is worth a 10. I think that you, as the photographer, also has a rating in mind for this photo and I would like to know what rating you would give it. Greatings Jan.
peter wijn on Tue 22 Aug 2006, 19:37
Considering the comment of jan, I think he is right, although i couldn't give you a different rating for this picture. look for even more stunning pictures on his site: sheer velocity http://www.pbase.com/dophoto/image/65227910 a new kind of action in swifts http://www.pbase.com/dophoto/image/65227934
