Nice photo again! You are frequently able to capture two birds in interaction, with both birds fully sharp. Do you have a lot of patience and luck, or do you combine multiple shots two achieve this? In the latter case, your computer skills are excellent, as it is absolutely invisible.

Best, Vincent

I want to correct the species. Sorry to everyone, but these are Female Orchard Orioles. Young Orioles are, for me, tough to identify.

Vincent, I wish that I had the computer skills to combine images, but I do not. My technique is to place a perch in line with the Sun and place the perch 90 degrees to my position so that all of the perch will be in focus. A large perch works best because it provides more places for birds to land. On this image, you can see that I went to f/9 for more depth of field, and of course that helps. It's my experience that after f/9 the image quality begins to suffer and the depth of field does not increase all that much, and it also force a much higher ISO, which is something that I try to avoid. To get these types of images it takes patience and when the image is presented, it usually only offers a split second to get the shot. Luck certainly plays a big part. Hope that helps. Feel free to send a private message if you ever want to discuss it in more detail.

Thanks for your explanation, Gene. Just exceptional photos due to all your efforts to get a perfect setting for the birds.

Vincent

Ar really beautifull composition. Nice and vivid colours, pinsharp birds in a lovely setting of little leaves and orange berries in the exact opposite corners. Big compliment!
