This was a very lucky chance encounter. I'd just received a new Sigma 500mm f4.5 lens and had gone out to try it. I spotted the roller and managed to get very close for this shot.

A migrating bird was feeding in a small palm plantation. They don't seem to stay longer than a day or two.

I was watching this migrating pipit taking a bath. It was hot outside and he had managed to find a pool to wash in.

Migrating bird resting on a water sprinkler. The temperature was 42 deg C which is possibly why the bird is holding it's wings this way.
