Hi all / Hoi allemaal
I write forum-item in English so that I also reach our foreign collegues.
For my work I have to go to Northern Finland (near Ivalo) for a 2-day workshop on 22-23 April (lucky me!). Of course I want to spent a few days (5 or so) before or after this workshop in Lapland to do what I like most: nature photography.
Of course I want to go in the first place for the taiga species like all the Owls, Siberian Tit, Three-toed Woodpecker, Ptarmigan (just to mention a few).
But I heard that it is very hard to find these birds in this remote area without local assistance. My questions is: Can somebody help me to prepare this trip a bit? E.g. by giving me contact info (e-mail adresses) of local Finnish birders.
May be it is even worth and possible to drive up north (only 250 km) to the Varanger fjord and do some birding there as well (what can I expect at the end of April? Are some migrating waders already back?).
Further I have a lot of practical questions: Are the roads free from snow? How about accomodation? Etc. Has somebody experience with any of these things?
Thanx in advance, kind regards,
