Yesterday, huge gatherings of Little Gulls (probably 400 birds), together with Mediterranean Gulls and three species of Marsh Tern apparently gathered insects  in the air, where just before sunset space was literally filled with clouds of millions of mayflies (ephemeroptera). Today our team reported several migrating Collared Flycatchers along the Black Sea. I was lucky to photograph this male from my car close to the main traffic road and from a very close range.   Usually, these birds are very shy and difficult to approach in their breeding grounds. In Belarus for example they always perch on the top of big trees such as old Oaks 20-30 meters high. Today, April the 16th 2011 I had fabulous views of an adult Demoiselle Crane foraging in a ploughed field near Durankulak Lake.  First, the bird was seen two days ago near Shabla Tuzla lagoon, some 20 km south from Durankulak.  Picture taken from about 300 m. Scientific name: Grus virgo

Today, in spite of the fog we reported a good array of waders in the lake including Marsh and Wood Sandpipers, Greenshank, Redshank, Spotted Redshank, Black-tailed Godwit, Dunlin, Snipe and several Black-winged Stilts... Scientific name: Himantopus himantopus

An adult Long-legged Buzzard sitting by the main road. Photo taken from the car while still on the road going high speed (50 km). This technique doesn’t scare raptors since the car doesn’t stop and works very well while driving on big traffic roads. Scientific name: Buteo rufinus
