The most familiar heron in Australia, it is easily identified by its primarily blue-grey plumage and a characteristic whiteface. This species feeds on a wide variety of prey, including fish, insects and amphibians. Scientific name: Egretta novaehollandiae

This is one of Australia's most loved birds. It has a "laughing" call which is often sung in chorus with other kookaburra's. This bird is common in wooded areas throughout eastern and south-western Australia Scientific name: Dacelo novaeguineae
